# GROW: Greater Boston Research Opportunities for Young Women GROW (Greater Boston Research Opportunities for Young Women) is Boston University's paid summer research program for young women who are serious about STEM careers. Participants spend six weeks embedded in a BU biology or chemistry research lab on the Charles River campus, working on cutting-edge projects while building a peer cohort of fellow researchers. ## What You'll Do - Work Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in an assigned Boston University research laboratory (2026 session: July 7-August 14, after a July 6 orientation) - Meet several times a week with the program manager to set research goals and report progress - Hear guest speakers discuss their research and careers in STEM - Develop communication skills by presenting your research at the end-of-summer symposium ## Who Should Apply Young women finishing their junior year at Massachusetts schools within a 30-mile radius of Boston who are at least 16 years old by July 1 and have a demonstrated record of achievement in science. The program is free to attend, and participants receive a $2,000 stipend upon completing all program requirements. Applications for each summer typically open in winter through BU's LERNet STEM outreach office. ## Outcomes GROW alumnae finish with six weeks of authentic university lab experience, a research presentation, faculty and graduate student mentors, and a stipend - a combination that makes the program one of Greater Boston's strongest springboards into college research for young women.
