What Is Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive?
The 2026 Summer Art Intensive was a four-week, noncredit commuter program on The Cooper Union's East Village campus for students ages 15-18 who were rising sophomores through rising seniors or equivalent. It ran July 13-August 6, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Students chose one full-day concentration: Animation and Drawing, Drawing Intensive, Graphic Design and Drawing, Painting, or Studio Practice for experienced rising seniors. Professional working artists taught classes with Cooper Union undergraduate teaching assistants, and sections were capped at 16 students.
The curriculum combined studio work, weekly focus workshops, field trips to New York museums, galleries, and artist studios, visiting-artist presentations, social events, and a final exhibition. Required materials, software, printing, and field-trip travel and admission were included. The program did not provide housing, a meal plan, a student visa, or college credit; students could request a completion letter within one year for a $10 service fee.
