What Is Grow Dat Core Leadership Program — Crew Member?

Core Leadership is Grow Dat's entry-level paid youth employment program. Forty-eight crew members ages 15-21 from around New Orleans work on the City Park farm from November through May. Each week they choose a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon shift and also work Saturday, earning $13 per hour for about 8.5 scheduled hours.

Roughly half the experience is sustainable farm work—such as weeding, transplanting, harvesting and growing food in raised beds—and half focuses on building community, giving and receiving feedback, cross-cultural communication, ecology, food systems, history, sovereignty and a just sustainable future. Applications are currently open through mid-September, with interview scheduling beginning in August for September interviews. The site does not publish an exact final date or time, so applicants should apply promptly.
