What Is Youth Crew?
Youth Crew is The Marine Mammal Center's intensive high-school volunteer and service-learning program in Sausalito. Over eight months, participants train and work in both marine-mammal animal care and public engagement, attend workshops at the Center and with other youth conservation groups, educate visitors, develop conservation materials, and reflect on their learning in a culminating symposium. The application guidance emphasizes ten leadership skills and requires applicants to be enthusiastic about both rehabilitation work and education—not just proximity to animals.
Youth Crew is competitive, and every published program date is mandatory. The most recent guidance supported essays or audio/video responses and required an outside reference. Applicants identifying as BIPOC, low-income, or first-generation college-bound could seek a stipend.
