# Scholastic Kids Press Scholastic Kids Press is Scholastic's team of Kid Reporters, ages 10-14, who have been reporting 'from their hometowns and on the national stage' since 2000. Selected annually by Scholastic editors, Kid Reporters cover topics central to kids' lives today - reading, literacy, education, civics, sports, and more - and their stories are published on Scholastic's Kids Press site. Reporters receive press credentials, a reporter's notebook, and business cards. ## What You'll Do - Pitch, report, and write real news stories from your hometown for a national audience - Interview newsmakers - Kid Reporters have interviewed authors, media personalities, and public officials - Work with Scholastic editors, who coach you on journalism fundamentals through the year - Publish under your own byline with official Scholastic Kids Press credentials ## Who Should Apply Students who are 10 to 14 years old at the start of the school year, or enrolled in grades 5-8. Applications are submitted annually - typically including a sample news story, two story ideas, and a personal essay - and editors select the new class on writing ability, interviewing skills, and attention to detail. The application window for the 2026-27 program year has closed; the next cycle typically opens in spring. ## Outcomes Kid Reporters graduate with published national clips, professional interviewing experience, and a rare early journalism credential - a standout foundation for school newspapers and future writing programs.
