What Is CompSciConnect?
CompSciConnect is a three-year University of Maryland program that introduces middle-school students to computing. Participants progress through block-based programming such as Scratch, web design with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, 3D game design, cybersecurity and online safety, cryptology, number bases, logic, and broader computer skills. Undergraduate computing instructors lead the summer curriculum and support school-year projects.
The commitment is two consecutive weeks each summer plus one Sunday per month during the school year. December Showcase and April Maryland Day participation are encouraged. The program is in person and nonresidential. Its usual entry groups are Yellow and Red, with approximately 45–50 Yellow spaces and 10–12 Red spaces; returning second- and third-year students use a separate intent-to-return form. Home-school applicants use the regular application and are placed using age and prior computing experience.
