What Is VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC)?

VEX V5RC is a student-led team engineering competition. The official 2026-27 game is Override: two alliances of two robots compete on a 12-by-12-foot field through a 15-second autonomous period and 1 minute 45 seconds of driver control. Teams design, build, program, test, document, repair, and drive a VEX V5 robot, then attend local events that can lead through qualification pathways toward the 2027 VEX Robotics World Championship. Rules are updated during the season, so teams must use the current manual and official Q&A rather than an old one-page description.

The official 2026-27 VEX pathway uses events.vex.com for team and event registration. Middle-school teams, high-school teams, and middle-school students who elect to play up can participate under the manual's team-classification and age rules. Student-centered policy matters: students must make the design, build, code, strategy, driving, repair, and engineering-notebook decisions, while adults may teach, supervise, and advise.
