# WriteGirl WriteGirl is a Los Angeles-based creative writing and mentoring organization, founded in 2001, that pairs professional women writers with teen girls and gender-expansive youth. The program promotes creativity, critical thinking, and leadership - and it is entirely free. While WriteGirl is rooted in LA, most workshops are online, so teens can participate from anywhere. ## What You'll Do - Join creative writing workshops held mostly on Saturdays and Wednesdays, spanning songwriting, poetry, fiction, journalism, screenwriting, and more - Work with mentors who are professional writers from journalism, film, TV, and publishing - Submit work for publication in WriteGirl's award-winning anthologies and the literary journal Lines & Breaks - Attend special in-person events if you're in the Los Angeles area ## Who Should Apply Anyone ages 13-18 who identifies as a woman, girl, gender-expansive, trans, nonbinary, or femme and wants to grow as a writer. There is no application essay or fee: teens complete a registration form, a parent or guardian signs a consent form, and the season runs year-round with rolling enrollment - 'we welcome teens to join at any time.' ## Outcomes WriteGirl members build a body of creative work across genres, publication credits in professionally produced anthologies, and long-term mentoring relationships with working writers. The organization's college-focused programming has an established record of guiding its seniors into higher education.
