What Is Google Code Next Labs?
Code Next is Google's active, free technology and AI education program for high school students. The direct student application described by the current site is for in-person Labs in Oakland, Chelsea in New York City, Detroit and Inglewood. Applicants must be in grades 9-12 and live in or near one of those cities. Separate nonprofit and school-district Affiliates in the United States and Canada run Code Next clubs for their own students; the Affiliate organization application is not a direct nationwide student portal.
Lab participants complete a rigorous computer-science curriculum, receive personalized coaching and build hands-on solo and team projects. Examples include websites, programs, robots and 3D-printed designs, with topics ranging from web development and artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship. Students gain access to Google mentors, industry experts and tools such as virtual and augmented reality. Programming is typically after school and on weekends.
