# Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC) HSMC is Texas State University's flagship Mathworks program: "a six-week, residential camp for high school students" that immerses participants in abstract mathematics full time. First-year students work through a number theory course taught in a discovery style, and returning students move into research projects. The 2026 session ran June 21 - August 1, 2026 at the San Marcos campus, at a program cost of $6,600 covering room, board, books, and supplies. ## What You'll Do - Take an intensive daily course sequence in number theory, abstract algebra, and combinatorics - Work problem sets in small groups with counselors and Texas State faculty - Move into original research projects in later years, culminating in written papers and presentations - Live on campus for six weeks with a full-time academic schedule - participants may not take on outside courses or obligations during camp ## Who Should Apply High school students, with the first-year program aimed at students currently in 9th and 10th grade; other students are admitted in exceptional cases. Admission is rolling and enrollment is capped, so early applications matter. Mathworks offers camp scholarships based on financial need, applied for as part of the regular application. ## Outcomes HSMC has a long record of sending students into competitive undergraduate mathematics programs, and its research track produces papers submitted to national student research competitions. The six-week length makes it one of the most demanding pre-college mathematics experiences in the country.
