What Is MITES Semester?
MITES Semester—formerly MOSTEC—is a free six-month online program for rising high-school seniors. The summer STEM Immersion phase includes two challenging online courses, team projects and a Final Symposium. The fall College and Career Prep phase adds research discussions, webinars with STEM professionals, networking, essay review, mock interviews, a college fair and weekly small-group mentorship from an undergraduate. Students receive qualitative instructor evaluations, but no grade, high-school credit or college credit.
Applicants must be current 11th graders and U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a current green card. While participating, they cannot live or travel outside the United States and its territories. MITES strongly encourages applicants underrepresented or underserved in STEM, first-generation students, families without STEM degrees, and students from rural or other schools with limited access, but considers all eligible applicants regardless of race or ethnicity.
