What Is Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Youth Council?
RSYC is the Jane Goodall Institute's national leadership cohort for U.S. residents ages 14–21 who are already implementing a service project or active in Roots & Shoots or another service organization. Members deepen projects for people, animals, and the environment; receive training in public speaking, community mapping, service learning, storytelling, and digital tools; mentor peers; and represent Roots & Shoots at events and media opportunities. Regular meetings are by Zoom twice monthly for about an hour, while summit and ambassador travel varies.
The 2026 application is closed, and Roots & Shoots offers an email list for the 2027 opening. The prior application used Submittable and required an online form, creative piece, and one adult reference. Those materials and the October 27, 2025 deadline are historical, not confirmed 2027 terms. Council costs, travel funding, exact term dates, weekly project hours, and future application requirements are not yet posted.
