Every fall, students start searching for summer deadlines before most programs have posted them. This page lists only what programs have actually confirmed for summer 2027 on their official pages, checked on September 26, 2026. When a program hasn't posted 2027 dates, we say so instead of guessing, and we note when the program says it will announce them.

Deadlines are the latest you can apply, not the best time. Some programs below review applications on a rolling basis or have an early deadline, and selective programs usually ask for essays, recommendations or both. Start with our guide to summer program essays and recommendations.

A few details worth knowing before you add these to your list:

  • MITES Summer is a six-week residential program at MIT for students applying in 11th grade who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents; MIT says program costs, including room and board, are covered and students pay only their travel. MIT gives its usual timeline rather than 2027 dates, so confirm them when the application opens.
  • STARS is an eight-week, non-residential, paid research program at UT Southwestern in Dallas. Applicants must be juniors, at least 16 by June 1, and the program's stated purpose is to encourage students in North Texas.
  • The Jackson Laboratory lists a $7,500 stipend plus room, board and travel for its 10-week program, and says it no longer accepts high school seniors. Read its eligibility FAQ before applying.
  • SIMR gives tentative dates of June 7-July 29, 2027 (8 weeks). Applicants must be juniors or seniors in the classes of 2027 or 2028, at least 16 by the start date, and U.S. citizens or permanent residents; Stanford says selection "will heavily favor local (Bay Area) students."

Announced Later: When to Check Back

  • Canada/USA Mathcamp: dates and location for 2027 will be announced in December.
  • BU RISE: 2027 practicum options will be announced in December. BU lists a 2027 calendar of June 27-August 6 for residential students and June 28-August 6 for commuters, marked as pending approval.
  • CDC Museum Disease Detective Camp: the CDC says to check back in January 2027 for information about the 2027 summer programs.

Not Posted Yet, or Not Running

  • Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS): not running in 2027. The Telluride Association announced on September 21, 2026 that it will not offer TASS summer sessions in 2027 while it reviews the program.
  • Research Science Institute (RSI): the application page still says applications for RSI 2026 are closed, and no 2027 deadline is posted. RSI says students typically apply in the middle of junior year.
  • Iowa Young Writers' Studio: the page still shows the 2026 cycle. Last cycle's application window was January 19-February 1, 2026, so expect a short winter window again, but wait for the 2027 dates.
  • Summer Science Program: no 2027 dates on its FAQ page yet.

Also on the Calendar: Competitions and Year-Round Programs

Summer programs aren't the only deadlines this school year. These aren't summer programs, but they land in the same months and compete for the same evenings:

DateProgramWhat the official page says

If you're entering a science fair, the approvals some projects need before experimenting take time, so read our science fair path guide this fall. For the Senate Youth Program and Boys and Girls State, see our civics programs guide.

Reading "Typical" and "Expected" Dates

A few programs describe their usual timeline instead of posting this year's dates. MITES says its application "typically opens in November and closes on February 1," the Coast Guard Academy lists AIM dates without a year, and NSLI-Y says its deadline is "expected" in November. Treat those as planning dates: put them in your calendar, but set a reminder to confirm on the official page once the application opens. The Sources list below shows the date we last checked each page.

How to Use This List

  1. Pick five to ten programs that fit your interests, grade and budget. Our summer planning guide helps you build a balanced list.
  2. Put every date in one calendar, including recommender deadlines and "check back" dates.
  3. Work backwards. Ask for recommendations four to six weeks before each deadline and start essays at the same time.
  4. Recheck the official page before you submit. Programs change dates, and a few pages above give only a usual timeline.

For what's open right now, see programs to apply to this week and browse all summer programs. Save the ones you like to your Activities Builder, and if you get into more than one, read how to choose between summer programs.
