What Is Boston University Summer Journalism Academy?
BU College of Communication describes an on-campus three-week academy for experienced rising juniors, rising seniors, and current seniors, plus a two-week learn-from-home academy for high-school students roughly ages 14-18 at all experience levels. Working journalists teach sourcing, interviewing, story development, leads, structure, accuracy, libel, ethics, broadcast and web writing. Students report real stories, receive editing, and build a portfolio; selected remote work may appear on The Terrier. The academy is noncredit.
Its current operating status cannot be verified. The official overview says 2025 sessions were canceled and that 2026 applications would open in December, yet as of August 21, 2026 it still gives no 2026 dates or fees. A remote subpage simultaneously lists 2025 dates and even refers to fall 2024 students. The FAQ contains a USD 60 application fee, conditional teacher recommendation, housing, meal, deposit, and refund rules, but mixes 2025 and undated language.
