What Is UC Berkeley embARC Summer Design Academy?
embARC is a four-week, in-person architecture and environmental-design program run by UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design. The 2026 academy ran July 6-31 and reached capacity.
Eligible 2026 applicants were rising seniors and exceptional rising juniors with a GPA of at least 3.0 who would be at least 16 by July 5; the program allowed no age waiver and required no previous design experience. Participants completed architecture, urban-design, and sustainable-city-planning work, received individual critiques, took Bay Area field trips, joined a community design/build project, and earned UC Berkeley summer-session credit recorded on an official transcript.
