What Is The School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt?
The School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV) is a four-year program for students who attend Metro Nashville Public Schools district-operated high schools. Students combine their regular high-school work with science and mathematics study on Vanderbilt's campus, including academic-year and summer courses.
The program recruits students in eighth grade. Applicants attending charter, homeschool, or out-of-district middle schools must indicate their intent to enroll or seek a lottery position in a district-funded high school. Selected or wait-listed students must report their intended district-operated high school by May 13 of the current application year to remain eligible. This is a continuing-eligibility requirement, not an initial application deadline.
